EURES answers the call of employer seeking language skills
For a large call centre with high demand for staff with foreign language skills, close cooperation with EURES becomes a routine part of the hiring process.

Last year, arvato services Estonia OÜ recruited 200 employees for its call centre in Tallinn and to do so it engaged the services of the EURES network – not just in Estonia, but also in Latvia, Lithuania, Greece and Spain.

The call centre provides customer service in around 20 languages to clients from the aviation industry, IT and telecommunications, the automotive industry as well as the gaming and entertainment sector.

“Our first contact with EURES came through the Eesti Töötukassa (the public employment service in Estonia) in 2007 when we took our first steps in recruiting employees from abroad and applying for working permits,” says Pille Room, Human Resources Manager at the international outsourcing service provider.

In the beginning, the cooperation with EURES was not a regular feature, but after two years, it was clear for arvato that recruiting from abroad is ‘a must’ for all companies who need to employ people with very specific skills, and its link-up with EURES became a part of the daily routine.

According to arvato’s business specifics, the company needed to recruit people with particular language skills, and as is often the case, the firm could not find suitable employees on the local labour market. Pille says working with EURES enabled the business to optimise the time and resources spent on the hiring process.
But Pille believes this aspect also benefits the jobseeker. “In my opinion, the cooperation with EURES Advisers is a great support for the candidates because they have a reliable local partner and contact person and time is used efficiently,” she adds.

Pilles adds that the new generation in the employment market is mobile and open to new challenges, and organisations are in need of highly skilled people. She believes the cooperation between arvato and EURES combines those two aspects and creates positive results for both sides. “We consider EURES a reliable business partner. The cooperation with the network has brought us seven employees with the necessary skills during the last half a year and in the recruitment process there were more than 25 candidates to choose from.”
EURES can provide employers, in particular small and medium-sized businesses, with a personalised service to access the potential workers available in the European Economic Area. Its services include providing labour market information and statistics for each country, a database of CVs for suitable candidates, and a jobs advertising service.
